✅ 1. What License Do You Need?
To rent a motorcycle in Iceland, you must:
Be at least 20 years old (varies by rental company).
Hold a valid motorcycle license (A, A2, or equivalent in your home country).
Have your license with you—copies or photos aren’t accepted.
If your license isn’t in English, bring an International Driving Permit (IDP).
✅ 2. Insurance & Deposits
Insurance for motorcycle rentals in Iceland works differently from car rentals. Comprehensive coverage is less common, and damage liability can be high.
At Arctic Riders, we include basic liability insurance in your rental, covering third-party damage. Additional insurance options are limited:
Gravel Protection – Not available (ride cautiously on gravel).
Sand and Ash Protection – Not available.
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) – Not available.
Because of this, you are responsible for any damage to the motorcycle, and repair costs can be very expensive in Iceland.
Important:
Always ride within your comfort zone and follow the rules—especially on gravel roads.

Iceland has spectacular roads, but some restrictions apply:
F-roads (mountain gravel roads) require specific permission and sometimes special insurance.
Off-roading is strictly illegal. You must stay on marked roads and tracks.
Many highland roads are closed from October–June.
If you plan to explore the highlands, confirm that your rental is allowed and properly insured.

The best riding season is June–September, when the weather is milder, and most roads are open. July and August are peak months, so book early.
